Handling Hard Days

This is a crazy month for me. I have both of my feet in braces due to two separate injuries and I am directing a summer camp, which requires me to be on my feet most of the day. Moms, we often get ourselves in situations where “grin and bear it” is hard to do. I remember the brand-new baby stage. That was rough! Trying to take care of yourself and a newborn was like juggling an apple and a bowl of Cheerios!  It seems like you could catch one part of your life, but the other parts were flying out of control.

How do we navigate any tough situation with a pleasant attitude?  I am a firm believer in some people being born as glass-half-full people and some are glass-half-empty people. So, part of handling hard situations depends on the personality you are born with, but God calls us to be pleasant, kind, and positive as a Christian, regardless of our given personality.

The bible talks about it this way in Philippians 2:13-1713 For it is God who works in you both to will and to work for his good pleasure. 14 Do all things without complaining and arguing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without defect in the middle of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you are seen as lights in the world, 16 holding up the word of life, that I may have something to boast in the day of Christ that I didn’t run in vain nor labor in vain. 17 Yes, and if I am poured out on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.

Having a foot in a brace or even having a new baby doesn’t compare to much of the hurt and torment others experience in other parts of the world or in past centuries. So, one little trick I heard years ago was to ask yourself what is the worst outcome that you might be facing in a tough situation. Once you realize that even if the very worse thing happened, you would still be okay, it will allow you to relax and tackle the task at hand. Another thing I’ve learned to do is realize the day will pass no matter what I do so I would rather pass the day with a good attitude than a poor one. I know I can never get that day back so why waste it in negativity.

If you’re facing a tough situation, I hope this helps you a little. Life is short, make it all count!

Hugs, Chrys
