Women Who Rock Their World
In a high pitched women’s voice the camp speaker began to act out the story of Esther. Night after night he unpacked the incredible tale of a young orphan girl who had been raised by her cousin.
I was 10 years old and somehow Dave, the camp pastor, made Esther’s adventure come alive. Each evening, while the campers made their way to the open-air amphitheater around the campfire, I finagled my smaller-than-average self toward a front row seat. I didn’t want anything to distract me from hearing the next installment of Esther’s biblical tale.
In the end, I was elated to hear that God had providentially orchestrated a way for Esther to become the queen who saved her people. However, what had its grip on me wasn’t Esther’s heroic experience, rather, it was how Dave kept referring to Esther as a normal girl who God used to influence her generation. Her painful past and her common upbringing didn’t keep her from becoming all that God wanted her to be. The average girl who God used to turn her world upside down had me longing to be someone God would use as well––maybe you can relate?
Because Christ’s servants long to live out His calling for their lives, in my three decades of experience as a speaker at youth camps, college retreats and women’s events, my most requested message has been: Women Who Rock Their World.
Inspired by the roots of my childhood longing for God to influence the world through me ––like He did Esther ––I cannot help but speak of what I have seen and heard (see Acts 4:20).
Women Who Rock Their World is a nod to Acts 17:6 when they said of The Apostles: “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here too.”
Can you imagine if others said of you, “Oh man, the one who God is using to turn the world upside down for His Kingdom, is here too”? How exciting, right? Can I get a hallelujah?
Teen aged boys, single young adults and older women past their prime, listen to the message spellbound. I can observe in their faces evidence of the Spirit igniting their hearts – the way mine was kindled so many years ago.
I grew up to study public speaking in college equipping me with the skills I used while working in corporate America. It never occurred to me that the Lord was training me to one day become a Christian author, speaker and podcast host.
Contemplating my lifetime of waiting for God to make sense of the paths I’ve been on, I have learned to rest in God’s incredible ways by memorizing Isaiah 55:9 – I hope this scripture inspires you too:
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
If you’re a follower of Christ, and your heart burns for God to use you too, you can know that He is the one who is putting that unction in your soul. And here’s the cool part, God doesn’t expect you to dream up all the good things you can do for His Kingdom. Rather, His ways will unfold in His perfect timing when you humbly submit to The Lord. Christ will meet you on your broken road, like Paul’s Damascus road. God will send helpers to mentor you, like He sent Mordecai to Esther. In my personal experience Jesus sent older mentors to guide me because, Old Ladies Know Stuff (that’s the name of my podcast!)
If you determine to dwell in wholehearted devotion and submission to Jesus you will experience a life without regrets. I am praying for you dear friend. The time is now. God only knows how He wants to reach this generation through your obedience to Christ. We need you in history––for such a time as this! May God’s Word grip your heart to stir in you His zeal to become a woman who rocks your world!
