The Irony of Less Helping More

Hey Rockstars! I have made my share of makeup mistakes. You? For instance, I have used foundation in my daily makeup routine since I was a teenager. If I could tell younger Shellie anything, I’d tell her to toss that heavy bottle of liquid wonder in the trash and enjoy her wrinkle free life.

The next featured item in my list of “what was I thinking” memories would be cake foundation. Granted, there are newer lighter versions of cake foundation on the market today, and I’m sure they’re great products when applied correctly. This was not that. The foundation I have in mind, the one I simply couldn’t foresee forsaking, was a heavy stick of full coverage that created a solid cream opaque background for stage two of my makeover. I’m sure I thought I was rocking it! (Pun intended.) I share these questionable makeup regimes of yesteryear because something tells me y’all may have committed a few of your own. I thought it’d be a nice bond before today’s beauty tip.

Thankfully, I gave up heavy foundation years ago and I think that’s a good practice for all ages. But for those of us with older skin, lightening up on the “canvas” is a must! This is one time when less really is more. We can’t afford to put too much product on our skin lest it build up in our laugh lines and accentuate our sweet new creases. (Wrinkles is such a harsh word, right?)

So, here’s my favorite product and process. I begin with CC+ Cream Illumination with SPF 50+ in medium tan. Their tag line is “Your skin, But Better”. I’ve been using it for several years now, with a little twist. I like to put a dot of my CC cream in my palm along with a generous amount of moisturizer. By rubbing my hands together, I can create the perfect combination of hydration and coverage! Apply it with your fingers, or with a sponge, and you’re set.

That’s it for me. Tell us about your makeup tips or let us laugh with your past mistakes. Either way, Chrys and I enjoy hearing from you! Go get ‘em, Rockstars!

Hugs, Shellie
