Homemade Frozen Yogurt Recipe Ingredients

I say ice cream, you say ice cream, we all scream for Homemade Frozen Yogurt! Wait, what? You’re right. That’s not how that little verse ends, but I’m in love with my new KitchenAid Ice Cream Attachment and the delicious homemade frozen yogurt it delivers is a hit around here. I’ll give you my basic recipe, although it’s not actually mine, it’s all over the web. But, then I’ll give you a few ideas to try that do come from my kitchen.*

Homemade Frozen Yogurt Recipe Ingredients

3 cups plain Greek yogurt (full-fat for creamier texture)

1 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

As for toppings, it’s like a trip to your favorite frozen yogurt store. Anything goes, fruit, granola, nuts, chocolate chips! Yes, please.

Instructions:

Heads up: You’ll need to have your KitchenAid ice cream bowl in the freezer for a good 18-24 hours before you take it out and begin. Assuming you’ve done that, let’s get started.

Combine all ingredients in a separate mixing bowl, not your chilled ice cream bowl, not yet. Stir well. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the yogurt mixture for at least 1 hour, or until thoroughly chilled. Chilling the mixture helps it freeze faster and results in a smoother texture.

Now, affix your Ice Cream bowl and attachment to your KitchenAid and turn it on, using the slowest speed. This is very important. If you pour in your yogurt recipe before turning on the mixer, it can cause it to freeze too quickly and possibly lock up your motor! Always start your Kitchen Aid first. Churn for twenty-five to thirty minutes or until it reaches the consistency you prefer. If you want your fruit mixed into your yogurt instead of using it as a topping, add fresh fruit in the last few minutes of this step.

Serve, decorate with your favorite toppings and freeze the leftovers. Congratulations if you have leftovers.

Hugs,

Shellie

*Since I’ve been cutting down on our sugar around here, I’ve started using about a third cup of honey instead of a cup of white sugar. You will notice a slight honey taste. To offset that, and in the offside chance that you have enough to freeze, try adding a third cup of heavy cream to this recipe. We’ve found we like that, it’s both delicious and a tad creamier! Enjoy
