Get the Rock Out of Your Shoe

One morning I had a tiny rock in one of my Ugg boots. I kept shaking my foot so it would move out of the way. That worked for a while, but soon the rock was right back pestering me. No matter what I did or how I shook, that rock wouldn’t go completely away.

Finally, I stopped myself and found myself mentally saying, “Why am I walking around in pain when all I have to do is stop, take my boot off and knock it out?” It really seems silly to stay in pain when it wasn’t necessary. So, why did I do it?

The answer isn’t a good one, but it’s honest. There are three things that come to mind.

1. I kept saying, “I’m too busy to stop what I’m doing to take care of it.”

2. I didn’t think of it as harmful. It had to be just a small rock and surely, I could keep it out of my way.

3. I occupied my mind with other things. This is a little like the “busy” excuse, but it’s different in that my brain pushed the pain back to accommodate other activities.

Do you have a rock in your shoe? Now, I’m not talking about a real rock; I’m talking about the “pebbles of pain” that you are walking around with that either slow you down or completely stop you for doing what you know God needs you to do. Some pebbles of pain are just annoying, but are also distracting you from finding and completing your purpose.

Is there anything you need to stop doing, seeing, or saying so the pain or annoyance stops? Don’t let another day go by without pouring that rock out!

Just stop. Put it down. Hand it over to God. And start running straight into God’s plan for your life.

Hugs, Chrys
