A Welcome from Shellie

What’s in a Name?

Hey y’all, it’s a good time to chat on my end, and the nice thing about blogging is that once you find a minute to join me, you’ll find these words waiting for you. So, now that you’re here, let’s get to know each other.

If you’ve read the introduction to our site, you have the backstory on why Chrys and I launched this grand adventure. You may even know us from our respective books and websites. But, just in case you’re a brand-new friend, I’ll mind my manners and introduce myself. I’d be delighted if you would reciprocate in the comments.

Professionally, I could tell you I’m an author, Bible teacher, and podcast host, but this isn’t a conference meeting and that is about as boring an introduction as one could read. Come on, you know I’m right. Or, as we say around here, “Tell the truth and stay in church”. The real goods can be found on my Instagram bio. It says I’m a laughter loving, story stacking, Jesus following, farm wife, mom, and Keggie. Okay, now we’re getting somewhere!

Keggie is my grandmother name. And no, it has nothing to do with a keg of fermented grain, despite the story my forever friend concocted and loves to tell whenever anyone asks me how I came to be a Keggie. In her version, I fell into a beer keg when we were younger, and I was too inebriated to find my way out! Whatever. There’s zero truth to that, but people do chuckle when she tells it, and we do love to laugh! Besides, I discovered long ago that the more I protest, the more valid her claims sound. So, I quit, at least when she’s around. But, she’s not here, so I can tell you the “rest of the story” in relative peace.

My nieces and nephews named me Keggie many moons ago when one of them tried to say Aunt Shellie and it came out, best anyone could figure, as Aunt Keggie. You know the routine, right? Someone repeated it, and then another, and just like that, I was Keggie to my extended family, and our circle of friends, for the next twenty something years.

When my first grandchild was on the way, I spent days dreaming of just the right name. I had a nice selection picked out, too, even though I knew full well that once the littles hit the planet they come up with their own names! I learned that lesson when my sisters and I decided our mom would be “GanGan” to our kids. We cross-stitched GanGan on pillows, worked it into wall hangings, and monogrammed it on anything we could get our hands on, (we’re southern like that.) Sadly, the little comedians couldn’t read. They named her Nanny as soon as they were old enough to form a word.

But I’ve digressed. You’ll find I do that.

Back to the present. Keggie I am. Because Keggie is what my grands heard the most, and there’s nothing I’d rather be!

I have five going on six of these marvels. My daughter and son-in-law have given us two grandsons. My son and his wife have given us two grand girls and one boy, and they’re expecting another in the Spring. Which means I’ll be renaming the brood. My readers have heard me call them The Fabulous Five for years now. I reckon we’ll be going with The Super Six!

But, enough from me. I’ll save the rest of my introduction for the next post. It’s your turn. Tell us about yourself, what they call you, and whatever you want to tell us about those grands! You’ll find Rocking It Grand is a safe place for bragging.

Hugs,

Shellie AKA Keggie

Hugs, Shellie

My name is Gerilyn, Mimmer to my grandkids. Mimmer is Frence for Grandmother, we don’t have the accent to go along with it but the name has been passed down for for a few generations. Mim for short. I am a retired RN who is a Pastor’s wife, involved in Celebrate Recovery for almost 10 years now. I am a grateful believer in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Happy to be on board!

Hi Gerilyn! Or should I say Mimmer? 🙂 What a cute grand name. Thanks for taking the time to tell us a little about yourself, and for sharing your faith. Our eyes on on that precious Lamb, too! 🙂 Hugs, Shellie

    Hi Gerilyn,
My name is Cathy and I’m a mom of 6, (34 – 14years), and a grandmother of one, he’s 21 months! I love both being a mom and Grandma! I totally get what you were saying about picking a grandmother name…. it was so hard but we all settled on Grammy. So my precious grand baby doesn’t call me anything yet but I’m really curious what my “real” name will be! I tried to make my mom Grams……but my kids ended up calling her Grandy! I’m super excited about this site! I love the Lord our God and this will be such a great place to call home! I really feel this is perfectly timed! God Bless you both! Blessings, Cathy
