A Welcome from Chrys

Hi everyone!

This is my first official blog on our new site and I am so excited!! This site has been weighing on me for months now and it took my good friend, Shellie, to convince me that “weighing” meant I should do something about it. So, we partnered up, as the cowboys say and Rock It Grand was formed. We are so excited to meet some new friends in the “rocking it” stage of life and share some of our homemade wisdom, google-searched ideas, and tried and true recipes and more. We also want to share more about us and how we do life each day and learn a few things from you.

So, here’s a little information about me that’s not in a standard bio.  First of all, I was born in Ocean Side, California because my dad was in the Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton. Daddy was a basketball player whose assignment was to entertain the troops during the Korean War (how cool is that?) and my mom was a cheerleader, so there you have it. They met and fell in love and, eventually, produced me and five siblings. After a short while in California, we made our way to Oklahoma where my dad went to college at OSU in Stillwater, OK. A job followed college and that took us (mom, dad, and five kiddos at the time—all while going to college—amazing!!!) to Louisiana where I still live today.

I lived a little all over the place, which is a little scary, but probably the best thing, for a skinny, shy little girl. Of the two of us, Shellie is the crazy-do-anything-in-public personality and I am the more reserved-on-the-outside, but party-on-the-inside type of personality. To have been a shy child, I loved going to school. My grandkids do not understand this, but it’s true. Well, not so much school, but I loved the social life. Even though I was shy, my friends were very important to me and any activity where my friends were, I wanted to be there.

I met my hubby at summer camp, married him at eighteen and proceeded to have three kids-Korie, Ryan, and Ashley. (It was the seventies. What can I say? We married and had kids. That’s how it worked.) Like most of you, we rallied together as a couple and managed to get our kids to adulthood and married (woohoo!) and they blessed us with fourteen grandkids. Fourteen!! Yes, it’s been a wild and crazy ride! My grandkids call me 2-mama and I love it. The name came from my first born grand, John Luke. He thought of that name all on his own and it stuck. Today, nearly every kid in West Monroe calls me 2-mama.

We’ve had an assortment of businesses and jobs. My degree is Elementary Education so I did the school teaching thing when my kids were in school (I still say it’s the best job to have with kids). We also had a chain of discount stores through the seventies and eighties, a jewelry and gift store, a Christian publishing company through the nineties until 2009 and then we both helped in different ways through the Duck Dynasty years. (Forgot to mention, my oldest daughter is Korie Robertson who is the real life wife of Willie Robertson from Duck Dynasty.) That’s another side story I can write more about later. In other words, we’re OLD and have done a lot of stuff. Oh, yeah, one more thing. I ended up becoming the director of that summer camp where I met, Johnny, my husband. (I definitely didn’t see that coming as a kid.)

So many of the adventures we went on as a couple I never could have dreamed up. God’s dreams are way bigger than mine could ever be. Shellie and I would love for you to comment and tell us a place where God took you that was a total surprise or just tell us anything about you and your family or give us your grandma name. We just want to hear from you!

Well, that’s it for today. Talk later.

Hugs, Chrys
