The Perfect Summer Dress

What’s in for summer? Short? Jeans? Leggings? Rompers? Sundresses? Okay, do we really care? Not really. Well, a little bit, maybe. After two years of flying under the fashion radar, I admit, I am a little bit interested in what is emerging for summer.

My daughter, Korie, and I were recently asked to speak at a lady’s event in Virginia Beach. This is our first speaking engagement since the lockdown. In fact, it was two years ago in March that we were on a mission trip to Haiti when the lockdown was announced. We landed in Dallas to a ghost town. President Trump had just shut the country down. And the rest is history, so to speak. We all lived for two years in a weird world of social distancing, masks, zoom meetings, at home learning and more family time than we’ve had in years.

So, when the invitation to speak in Virginia came in, we were filled with a mixture of excitement and terror. Excited to be out among women who love the Lord and a good time, but terror, knowing we hadn’t spoken in front of a crowd in two years, and we had to wear “real” clothes. I had gotten way too spoiled to my tennis shoes and stretchy pants, and, while I am so grateful that “look” is still in, I knew it was time to move on to other clothing. However, I did land in Norfolk, where the airport is, with my cute crop pants, a jacket, and sneakers. Couldn’t quite let go of the comfy shoes and, luckily, there are still in style.

I was also ready to find a cute dress to attend this event that was to be held at a country club. As I was deliberating my choices, my sweet daughter, Korie, called and said she had a fun Mother’s Day surprise for me. What, I wondered. I was just so excited we were doing an event together that I couldn’t think of anything more fun than that, but she did. We have a local designer who designs the cutest, most comfy clothes. They are “all things southern” with soft fabrics and a feminine touch. I had not bought any of her dresses, but Korie had and always looked so stunning in them. So, one day before our trip Korie and I went shopping for my Mother’s Day gift. It was so fun. The designer, Sue Sartor, has a showroom filled with absolutely the prettiest fabrics you have ever seen. We tried on and tried on and everything was gorgeous. I could tell I would have a hard time choosing one dress.

As we tried on and talked in our dressing rooms, we decided it would be fun to wear Sue Sartor dresses to our event, so then we had a purpose. We began to look at dresses that would coordinate on stage and not be distracting to our message. That would at least help me narrow down my large number of choices. I noticed a dress on the “sale” rack that seemed perfect, and it was! Plus, it was on the sale rack, which I always love!

Korie tried on a few more and quickly found the perfect dress for her to wear. As you can see from our picture, we coordinated, but weren’t too matchy-matchy. It was a win-win. Plus, the dress I got looks like it will go right into fall. A pair of boots and I’m good to go.

I’m going to worn you, Sue Sartor’s clothes are higher priced than I usually spent. She says she is a “luxury lifestyle brand” and it is a luxury to wear one of her pieces. Each piece is made of the finest natural cotton and silk. So, this would be a treat to most of us and you would probably not have a whole closest of her clothes. Also, remember there’s often a sale going on. I ended up with three pieces all from the sale rack. It was the best Mother’s Day gift! We had fun shopping and then fun wearing them together.

Even if you don’t need a summer dress, check out her clothes, just for fun. It’s a beautiful journey just to see what Sue creates. You can find her at her website Sue Sartor or on Instagram. Be ready to be wowed!

Happy Summer Shopping. Hugs, Chrys
