Makeup would definitely be listed among the many things that “have come a long way, baby!” I’m remembering the heavy cream foundation of my youth. Mercy. The very idea of your skin breathing beneath it was laughable and heaven forbid a girl sweat while wearing it. Toweling off was unthinkable unless you wanted to transfer your face to the towel! The trick was “patting” your face when necessary, and it had to be very necessary. I won’t bother asking “what was I thinking” because it was the same thing every other young woman my age was thinking. The more coverage the better. Understanding this was before we had any mileage on our skin to speak of makes our reasoning even more suspect, but we were products of our time.
These days we understand that less is better, right girls? Most of us have long since given up heavy foundation. We opt for tinted moisturizing creams and/or the lightest of light translucent powders. We know heavy foundation only congregates in our wrinkles, frown lines, and adding insult to injury, our dimples. Personally, I’ve noticed my dimples have become craters. I’m not fond of this development, but I’d rather have smile lines than frown lines so I’m choosing to embrace it!
But, back to foundation. I purchased Perbelle Cosmetics blending makeup after seeing it on Instagram for the thousandth time. It was advertised as a skin tone adjusting, color correcting, and moisturizing make up base and foundation, all in one. Plus, the models wearing it were older than three. What? I have a thing about commercials that use twenty-somethings to promote their anti-aging solutions. Somehow, their professed results fail to inspire confidence in me.
This product has lived up to it’s billing for me. I feel like you see me instead of the foundation. I’ve since reordered! Oh, about the price. The small tube may seem costly at $40, but you only need the tiniest amount per application. This stuff lasts forever!
Another product I heartily endorse is Queen Helene’s Conditioning Cholesterol. My hair went through a really bad season a couple years ago. I was never able to trace the why behind the sudden frizzies. I’d never had them before! Nor did I understand the reasons behind all the new breaking and splitting. I tried numerous deep conditioning solutions on the market. Nothing seemed to help. I was beginning to think nothing would until I ran across this product. Aging does it’s own thing to our hair. I realize I’ll never have the soft and silky hair of my youth again, but this cholesterol conditioner brought it’s condition way back, and the breakage is history. Thanks Queen Helene!

I’ve got one more find for you. It’s Vicks Severe Nasal Spray. I bought it on a whim, spurred by a memory. My mother and my grandmother used to rub Vicks on our little chests when we had a cold, and I can still remember how the smell would raft up and open my nose! Winner, winner! This spray feels just like that. Try it and see if you can’t breathe better immediately.
Thanks for reading, friends. If you have any finds to share, please do! We’re all in this together.
Hugs,
Shellie
