Paint the Picture of Truth

The table was low to the ground and guests were reclining on a type of couch, with their feet away from the table. This does not describe the painting of the Last Supper we know so well. The artist, Leonardo Da Vinci, painted it as he wanted it to be or as he thought it might or as it would have been in his day, but not as it truly was.

The truth is tables and chairs wouldn’t have been used by Jews and Romans at the time. Jesus and his disciplines would have been laying on one side with their feet away from the table, which explains how Jesus could so easily wash the feet of Judas. They would have been propped up on their left arm and eating with their right hand, laying on a couch or cushions.

It’s easy to believe what the world tells us. A picture is painted, we look at it, and it becomes our truth. Today, through television, social media, and news outlets we’re shown paintings that aren’t “truth”.

If painted accurately, the truth is just as easy to believe. Had we seen the Last Supper painted accurately, centuries of people would know the truth. But it wasn’t. I don’t know why Da Vinci decided to paint the scene at a table. While it is The Last Supper painting, some say it’s a compilation of meals Jesus had with his apostles. In any case, it’s not accurate.

Know this. If we don’t paint the picture of truth, someone else will paint a lie and they will show it to our children. And they show it to their children. And for generations, a lie will be believed.

The spirit of truth lives in every believer. That’s you and me. Speaking the truth, out loud and on purpose, must be our goal. Our children must hear the truth so they can believe the truth.

It’s time for all believers to get the paint brush out and paint the truth for all to see.

Hugs, Chrys
