I wouldn’t have you

Hey RIG family. Shellie here. The other day I was telling Chrys about a little attitude “hack” I’ve been practicing on myself, and since she liked it as much as I do, I’ve decided to share it with y’all.

When I was growing up my parents were fond of threatening my sisters and I with “attitude adjustments”. As you might imagine, we weren’t keen on the idea. That said, over the years, I’ve learned there is great value in learning how to adjust your own attitude, and I’ve grown quite fond of it. This little hack is a perfect example.

I developed it one morning a while back as I was engaging in what I like to call the extreme makeover. It seems the process is becoming increasingly necessary these days before I leave the house. (I could elaborate here but something tells me you don’t need any explanation. Besides, I’d rather give you something of value.)

I was minding my own makeover when some negative observations snuck into my thoughts. They went something like this, “Goodness gracious. I sure do miss the thick shiny hair and smooth skin of my younger years.” Granted, the mental list of physical changes was still growing when I decided to call a halt to it!

I looked myself straight in the mirror and said, aloud, “You may not have those things, but when you were younger you didn’t have Jessica, Phillip, Patrick, Carey, Emerson, Grant, Carlisle, Connor, Weston, and Kennedy!” Those names belong to my kids, their spouses, and my darling grands. Since that day, I’ve added even more names to the list of treasured friends and family members! Talk about a great attitude adjustment. It worked on the spot.

Have I needed to use this hack a time or two since then? Oh, yes! I sure have, but I love how my perspective changes every single time. And now, I give my hack to you. Let me know if you try it.

Hugs,

Shellie
