Don’t Stop Pursuing

Hey Rockstars,

Our grandchildren have entered some kind of warp speed growth mode. Case in point, last week I let my oldest two grand girls try on a pair of these cute new shoes that were hurting my feet.  (Sidebar, I knew they were too small when I bought them, but they were on sale! And did I mention they were cute?!) I couldn’t believe my eyes when the shoes fit their sweet feet like Cinderella’s slipper—  even little sister’s! The grand girls and I can now officially swap shoes. The oldest grandson, on the other hand, is sporting a foot that has totally outgrown mine. Have mercy.

It happens, right? We know that. Our kids grow up, and these precious grands will, too. We can’t change that, Rockstars. But we can prepare for it.

While Chrys and I have established how much we adore our grandchildren, we both feel strongly about the importance of continuing to pursue a life that isn’t centered exclusively around the next baby-sitting opportunity or Little League game. It’s best for all involved if we grandparents have our own hobbies and interests or we won’t know what to do with ourselves when we’re no longer on active duty. We’ll invite conflict if we expect anyone to help us fill our days, and that includes those who dearly love us. Bonus? Pursuing our own interests makes us more interesting. That’s a win/win regardless of how you look at it.

Let’s keep those precious grands and let’s see them as often as we can. But, let’s hold onto old hobbies, and develop new ones. Perhaps you used to love photography. Snapping all those pics of the grands could be preparing you to take it up again! Whatever it is, let’s read, learn, grow, and remember, only God can deal with the pressure of being our everything. What’s more, the Word says He welcomes it!

We’d love to hear about your interests and habits. Are you a crafter, a tennis player, a reader?  Tell us about it.

Hugs, Shellie
