Buckle Up

If you’re under the age of 40, this might take a few minutes to process. Brace yourself. We did not have seatbelts when I was a child. And, yes, we did have cars. (I’m old but not that old!) I was 14 before cars even had seatbelts, and I was 31 before it was a law to wear them. My kids were born in the 70’s which means I literally got in a car and drove with no one in a seatbelt!! What was I thinking??? Now, with ten great-grandkids under the age of six, I can’t imagine driving off without everyone being securely buckled in.
Here’s something else I can’t imagine doing. I can’t face the bumps, curves, fast pace, and detours of life without buckling up with God. David did not face that giant alone; he buckled up with the armor of God. Noah did not built that ark alone; he buckled up with the armor of God. Paul did not sit in prison alone; he buckled up with the armor of God. A seatbelt is all about protection. It’s a tangible way to guard against the dangers of the road. Once shown this truth, buckling up became a habit for most people. It’s something we do without even thinking.
Just as a seatbelt offers protection, we actually have access to something better. Isaiah 41 tells us to not be afraid because God is always with us. It’s with Him that we have the strength to handle whatever comes our way. And things will come our way. No life is lived without bumps, curves, and detours. Buckle up!
Have a great week. Hugs, Chrys (hug pic: A young 2-papa and our youngest daughter, Ashley)
