He Is Faithful
Hey RIG family! I wanted to share something with you that helps me on those mornings when I sit down to pray and the Lord doesn’t necessarily feel near to me. He is, of course. He promises never to leave us or forsake us, and He is faithful.
For God has said, “I will never, never fail you nor forsake you. Hebrews 13:5
With that settled, what I crave and what I believe we all want, is the conscious awareness of His Presence. So, about that tip. When I am having a hard time settling into prayer, I simply begin thanking God for the things that I can see and taste and touch. That may sound like, “Thank you, Lord, that I was able to get out of bed unassisted with the strength that you gave me.” Or “Thank you, Lord, for the running water in the bathroom and the bite of food from the pantry or the refrigerator this morning.” And maybe I’ll say, “Thank you for the hot coffee in my hand, for the fireplace that’s warming my bones.” If it’s the season to pray on the dock or back porch I’ll be thanking the Lord for the sights and sounds of nature. Regardless, the point is, when I begin thanking the Lord for the things that I can see and taste and touch, suddenly the one I can’t see feels closer still. Try it and let me know if it helps you!He
