Spring Fashions—70’s Inspired
I am loving the new styles of spring! They are right up my ally, so to speak. They are very feminine and flowing and soft and, if clothes can be, romantic. As with all things fashion, bits and pieces are borrowed from past decades to create something “new”. Today’s fashion is very reminiscent of the 70’s, which I loved. I’m not gonna lie, the past few years, designers have tried to bring the 80’s and 90’s back and I am so grateful it did not stick. UGH! The shoulder pads, the big hair, the side ponytail—NO! Been there. Did that. Don’t want to go back.
But, the soft, flowy dresses of the 70’s, the hippie-inspired, I’ll do those all over again. SO, you are likely to see maxi dresses, hippie shirts, high waist jeans, boho jackets, granny boots, peasant dresses, wrap dresses, smocked tops and shirt dresses in the store today. I was pregnant with three babies during the 70’s and I don’t remember buying any true maternity clothes, except some pants, as the dresses were perfect for my growing belly. My two granddaughters, who are pregnant now, are having the same luck. All the flowy styles are perfect for them.
Now, don’t get too excited and dig into your attic trunk (okay, maybe that would be cool). Designers are good at changing the style “just enough” that it requires all of us to buy it again. It’s not exactly like the 70’s, it’s just 70’s inspired.
Take a look at the fashions of the 70’s and some from today and you’ll see the similarities, but you’ll also see the differences.
The first pic is not very clear, but it’s me in the 70’s. Notice the puff sleeve, floral print, and the popular, granny glasses. ☺ That style is showing up everywhere. The second pic is from H & M. this isn’t my granddaughter, but it’s the dress I bought her on a recent shopping trip. It’s got the same neckline and puff sleeves. Of course, it’s in denim and I’m not sure I remember denim dresses in the 70’s, but it’s very similar.
That might not be something you’re looking for, but there are plenty to choose from. I love this one from Carly Jean of Los Angeles. First, I love the heart of this company. Second, she picks the cutest clothes. This adorable-ness is only $68.00. Here’s the link: Bristol Dress, Black – CARLY JEAN LOS ANGELES
Well, that’s it for today. Enjoy spring shopping!
