Old Rocker’s Still Got It
This past weekend was a fun getaway with the hubs. It started with tickets to the Eagle’s “Hotel California Tour” in Dallas but morphed into more. My nephew and his sweet wife had a baby and we were there! In Dallas. Where they live! So we got to have some extended family time with my sister (the grandma) and the new parents. So fun! Plus, we stayed in a pretty cool (for us senior citizens) area of Dallas and did a little shopping and eating out. PLUS, PLUS, we stopped at Canton, Tx., coming and going, at the Trade Days. It’s a huge flea market. Look it up if you haven’t heard about it. It happens once a month, so we happened to catch it just right.
BUT, I want to give you my “top ten best things about the Eagle’s concert” list in the blog today.
Let me just say the concert was over the top. If you are a concert going of any sorts, go to this one! It’s three and a half hours of good, clean entertainment. The concert was held at the American Airlines center in Dallas so it was huge and full to the tippy top! Even though I love the Eagles, I didn’t know they would fill a stadium like that. But, they not only filled it that night, they were doing a repeat performance the NEXT NIGHT!! And are coming back later in March!! What??? Yes! A band from 1971 is still capable of filling an arena night after night! That is why I say seventies music is the best!
Okay—here’s my top ten list from the night.
- Since the death of band member, Glenn Frye, Vince Gill has sung with the Eagles. I DID NOT KNOW THIS! At 62, his voice is still perfect and he brings even more class to the show,
- Joe Walsh, at 72 years old, can still sing and, literally, slay the guitar like he’s 50!!! Lol There is no age limit to the kind of talent that guy has. Seriously, unbelievable!
- Don Henley, one of the originals with Glenn Frye, is 72 as well, and moved effortlessly from the drums to lead vocals ALL NIGHT LONG! Somebody has not told that guy he’s 72!!
- Speaking of ALL NIGHT LONG. The concert started at 8:00, with no warm up band, just the Eagles and ended at 11:30. They took a 20 minute intermission, but, let’s face it, they are SEVENTY!! AGAIN, AMAZING!
- Glenn Frye passed away in 2016. His son, Deacon Frye, joined the band shortly after his dad’s death and sings lead vocals on several songs. He was incredibly kindhearted and grateful as he spoke about his dad’s legacy. PLUS, great job of vocals and guitar. So special to see him. From what I’ve read, prior to this gig, he had only done little shows of 200 or so. Now, it’s to 50,000!!
- Speaking of speaking. There really was very little. I usually like to hear the old guys reminiscent some when I go to their concerts, but I don’t think a single word was spoken for nearly an hour into the show. Just music. At just a few times, Joe Walsh, Don Henley, and Timothy B. Schmit (joined in 1977 and also 72) spoke. Each time, it was classy and so honoring of their music legacy.
- The production was one of the best I have ever seen! The staging, the lighting, the video tracks—EVERYTHING. PERFECT! It filled the stadium, but the sound wasn’t the cover your ears craziness. It was Eagles mellow and Eagles rock to excellence!
- And they played nearly everything we could think of. Desperado, Peaceful Easy Feeling, One of These Nights, Witchy Woman—ALL OF THEM!!
- As if the Eagles weren’t enough, the Dallas Symphony backed them up on several songs. Yes, I said that right! THE DALLAS SYMPHONY! What a sound! And for another treat—an A cappella choir from a local university sang with them. Okay! Now you’re just talking crazy talk! No, I’m serious, the choir and the symphony were so perfect with the Eagles sound, but that’s not all. An entire brass band also joined the fun! SO GOOD!
- And, last, but not least to my hubby, the American Airlines Center has some pretty good food, We found a Mexican restaurant that was pretty top notch! Definitely, not your corn dog and coke days anymore.
Well, that’s it! I really do recommend this show. It’s pretty pricey but you get your money’s worth.
